With the participation of almost 60 youth, the 2024 SEDR Active Citizens Experience Sharing and Networking Forum (ESNF) concluded in the first week of June 2024. Youth from across the Uva, North and Eastern provinces took part in this event with enthusiasm, delivering presentations about the social action projects they undertook in their respective communities, the challenges they faced, and how they utilised the skills they acquired in their Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) training sessions delivered by the SEDR project.
The forum provided a platform for the youth to share their experiences from a personal and group standpoint, showcasing their improved presentation and communication skills in the process. With the support of Active Citizens facilitators, mentors and SEDR experts, the youth were also given an opportunity to engage in many interactive sessions which centred around useful topics like ‘Personal Branding: Optimising Social Media Presence’ and even ‘Photojournalism with Wildlife Photography’.
Importantly, the ESNF participants had the chance to network and connect with peers across provinces, ensuring that their reflections and knowledge gathered from their separate journeys could be shared and their social leadership efforts sustained. Amid many entertaining and interactive sessions which included quizzes, games, role plays, the youth also designed a roadmap for positive pathways, emphasising education, careers, and voluntary community engagement for the future.
These sessions were eventually capped off with a memorable cultural night – assuring all involved that social leadership initiatives were not completely formal affairs! The youth utilised various art forms of dance and song to forge lasting connections amongst themselves and ensure collaboration on further community interventions.
